If you're dealing with dandruff issues we feel your pain. Dandruff is a skin disorder on the scalp that consist the shedding of white flakey particles which can cause some itching. Extreme dandruff shedding can cause low self-esteem issues.
Dandruff is clumping dead skin cells that are poorly exfoliating from the scalp. The scalp is basically part of the skin and just like the rest of the skin it needs to properly exfoliate dead skin cells. When the normal exfoliation process fails, dead skin cells start to clump or group together forming the larger white flakes we call dandruff. When dead skin cells clump together elsewhere on the body we call that dry skin. In essence, dandruff is an extreme form of dry skin on the scalp.
The main reason why the scalp or any part of the skin fails to properly exfoliate dead skin cells is because of high pH levels. On the pH scale, 1 to 6.8 represents acidic solution, 7 is neutral and 7.5 to 14 is basic or alkaline. To attain healthy skin and proper exfoliation, the entire skin surface must maintain a pH acidic level of 4 to 5. If the skin and scalp pH is higher than 7 on the pH scale, it will have an alkaline mantle which promotes poor skin health. The skin and scalp need to preserve an acidic layer in order to stimulate growth and proper exfoliation, this is difficult to achieve with a basic pH mantle. The reason why some individuals have high basic count pH skin mantle, it's because of the soaps and shampoos they use. Most soaps and shampoos have a pH scale above 7 which adversely affect the skin and scalp's ability to efficiently exfoliate dead epidermis cells.
But don't worry! You can bring back your scalp's acidic mantle with the apple cider vinegar hack. Apple cider vinegar has a pH acidic level between 2.75 to 3.10 enough to acidify skin. To remove dandruff, apply apple cider vinegar to the head until your scalp is fully saturated. Bear through the itchiness that's normal. After applying, keep the apple cider vinegar solution on your head for 15 minutes then wash off. Complete this process consistently 3 days a week to eliminate dandruff. Eventually, your scalp will stimulate new skin cell growth and begin to exfoliate dead skin without the clumping.
To further improve skin and scalp health, use soap and shampoo cleansers with lower pH between 4 to 6 which supports skin health. Then, supplement your diet with vitamin A, omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acid daily to support skin connective tissue health.
