Protein is an essential macronutrient that is necessary for supporting muscle growth and is an efficient fuel source for providing energy for our bodies. When protein consumption is elevated in the diet, the added benefit individuals receive is the cravings and desires for excessive sugar foods tend to drop with an active lifestyle.
Both sugar and protein are used as fuel sources for the body but sugar is high energy, which is more unstable than protein. Small amounts of sugar consumption in the diet are manageable, however when sugar intake is greatly elevated that’s when it leads to many health problems. Long-term high sugary diets can cause inflammatory diseases, type-2 diabetes and obesity.
Conversely, protein is a much more stable fuel source and is mostly stored in muscle tissue. Unlike protein, excessive sugar is stored in fat cells which eventually promote chronic health problems. To effectively support muscle growth and healthy weight management take protein shakes after each strength and aerobic exercises. Anyone can enjoy the benefits of extra protein in the diet without having to go to the gym.
The easiest way to add extra protein into your diet is by making protein shakes with our delicious healthy Super-food strawberry plant-based protein shake recipe.
